New year, new adventures!

6 Feb

2013, what do you have in store for us? Martin and I are expecting 2013 to be an exciting year – one filled with many changes, challenges, plenty of traveling, and good times!

Let me fill you in on what’s happening in the life of the Suenkels. Martin has been (very) busy with university, an internship, part-time at YWAM, and a pizza delivery job on the weekend (is that all??). He only has three months left of school and he graduates! I am a very proud wife. Me, I am full-time at YWAM Gold Coast, preparing to start staffing the February Discipleship Training School (DTS). For the past four weeks, I have been involved in “DTS staff training”, a course that trains the DTS staff, assigns jobs to get the school ready, while getting together to pray for the students we will closely mentor for 6 months. The DTS starts in 4 days!! I can hardly wait to meet all the students 🙂

Speaking of the students, we have 9 coming to join us from all over the world: Norway, Finland, Canada, USA, England, and Australia. 7 girls and 2 boys, all coming to grow closer to God and be trained in evangelism and missions. What an amazing privilege to be a part of their journey in God!

I have also been asked to speak on the topic “Evangelism” for 3 days on the school. I am pumped to share my heart and new revelations God has given me on sharing the love of Jesus to the world. Please pray with me that the students will have open hearts to become passionate about sharing their faith through this teaching. I know I need to rely fully on the Holy Spirit to do his work!

Martin and I will be leading a 2-month outreach together in May-July, leading 4-5 students. We have recently found out our outreach location (I can hardly wait to share it with you all!) but I should probably wait until the students get here before I go posting it on the Internet 🙂 We are excited to be on the mission field again!

Here is a short ministry update:

Coffee Van continues to be a powerful ministry to the community. Here’s a story from Coffee Van: I have been regularly chatting with a man named Peter. He’s a sweet guy, but unfortunately heavily involved in a sort of New Age cult. We have all just befriended this guy and have shown him the love of God through friendship and acceptance. I have had several talks with him about truth over the past couple months, and we have both passionately shared our beliefs with one another. I have also had the opportunity to pray for him, which really touched him. Please pray with me for Peter, that the truth would be revealed to him. That his eyes would be open to see that Jesus is the way to the Father and salvation. That he would know who he is in God. I have all the hope in the world that God is on the move in his heart!

Evangelism: I have had some amazing times in evangelism this week. From forming an ongoing friendship with a lady in a shopping center, to praying for a guy for healing in a shop in Surfer’s, to ministering through prayer and love to a mentally-ill man in Southport… the Holy Spirit has been leading and guiding me to reflect Jesus to people in need. I am so incredibly thankful that God would use my life to glorify Him. It’s my deepest prayer that my life would glorify Jesus, and when I see that happen in everyday life, I rejoice! Thank you God!

A Bible

A scripture that popped out to me this past week is Ephesians 5:1-2, “Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved childrenand live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.” It about knocked my socks off! You know those scriptures that you’ve read a hundred times, and then one day, POW!, you get huge revelation?? This scripture defines evangelism to me. Evangelism is being imitators of Jesus Christ, from a place of knowing our identity as dearly loved children, and living a life of love to the World, not a “worldly” love, but the love shown on the cross by Jesus. Amazing verse to live your life by, isn’t it? I am greatly encouraged.

In other news, Martin and I have been running faithfully 3 days a week for a good while now. We’ve signed up for a half marathon at the end of April (here in the Gold Coast) and a full marathon at the end of September (in Berlin, Germany)! We are (only) at 10k’s so far and are hoping we can train properly with being so busy, not to mention 2 months in a developing nation! It is good fun though, and we enjoy our time in the early mornings together.

Will post again once the DTS starts to let you all know how we’re doing! Thanks for reading!

We (OCC) couldn’t be happier and proud of you both! The good Lord is working mightily through you. Continue to carry the message to the still suffering people who don’t know the good news of Jesus, His virgin birth, death, and resurrection, that ransomed all mankind from eternal death!
